Professor Easterly began her career as an elementary school teacher. In 1972, after completing her doctorate at the University of Arizona, she accepted a tenure-track position at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. From 1981-1984 she served as Area Chair for the Curriculum, Instruction and Leadership Area. In 1984 Jean began her work at CSUEB as Department Chair for Teacher Education and later served as Assistant Dean and Director of the Center for Character Education. She has designed a Website for Character Education which can be reached at http://www.edschool.csueastbay.edu/services/cce/ The website features resources for K-12 teachers. The majority of her work is as a teaching faculty member. Professor Easterly is the author of forty publications including chapters in books, journal articles and simulation games. She has presented at 70 state and national conferences and has provided leadership for accreditation visits for the College of Education and Allied Studies.

Biographical Sketch |
In 2005 Professor Easterly was invited by Operation Respect in New York to serve as a consultant for research on the "Don't Laugh at Me" Character Education Project. Along with Mark Weiss, Education Director for Operation Respect, Jean worked in two Hayward Schools giving workshops for teachers, teaching demonstration lessons in classrooms and assisting in the research.
