Dirk Morrison concluded his 15th season as head coach of the Cal State East Bay baseball team. Morrison led the Pioneers to the 2008 NCAA Division III West Regional Post-Season Tournament for the fourth time in eight years. During the 2008 campaign, Morrison won his 300th game as coach of the Pioneers. The Pioneers finished the 2008 campaign with a 28-16 record. The 28 season wins were the second most victories in Cal State East Bay baseball history. The 2007 Pioneers posted a 21-19 record. Under Morrison, the 2006 Pioneers competed in NCAA III post-season play. The Pioneers finished the 2006 campaign with a 25-12 record and were 21-9 versus Division III opponents. Morrison's accomplishments during the 2006 season earned him Association of Division III Independents Co-Coach of the Year honors. Morrison concluded his most successful season last year as head coach of the Cal State East Bay baseball team. The Pioneers concluded the 2004 season with a 29-13 record, setting a school record with a .690 winning percentage. For the second time in the past four years, the Pioneers competed in NCAA III post- season competition. The Pioneers posted a 24-11 record against NCAA III competition. The Pioneers established a school record with an 11-game winning streak. On February 8, 2004, Morrison won his 200th game as head coach of the Pioneer baseball team. Cal State East Bay completed the 2003 campaign with a 21-19 record, the fourth consecutive year the Pioneers finished .500 or better. The Pioneers posted a 20-14 record against NCAA III competition and a 6-4 showing against teams in post- season play. During the 2002 season, the Pioneers finished with a 20-20 record including a 16-16 showing against NCAA Division III opponents. Morrison led the 2001 Cal State East Bay Pioneer baseball team to NCAA post-season play for the first time in 24 years. The Pioneers finished 4-2 in the NCAA Division III West Regionals as they reached the championship game for the second time in school history. Cal State East Bay finished the 2001 campaign with a record of 27-18. The 27 wins were the most victories for a Pioneer team in a season since 1977. The Pioneers compiled an impressive 23-10 record versus NCAA III competition. During the 2000 campaign, Morrison guided the Pioneers to a 19-19 record and a 19-12 mark against Division III opponents. Since the 2000 season, the Pioneers have a record of 135-109 (.553 winning percentage) and an impressive 117-77 mark (.603 winning percentage) against NCAA III competition. In 1998 , Morrison won his 100th and 101st games as skipper of the Pioneers. During the 1996 campaign, Morrison guided the Pioneers to 25 victories, the most wins since 1992. The team's 16 conference wins earned a third place finish in the Northern California Athletic Conference.
As the first CSUEB alum to hold the position of head baseball coach and only the third individual ever (CSUEB Hall of Famer Al Mathews and Cal-Berkeley Hall of Famer Doug Weiss being the others), Morrison was a pitcher for the Pioneers from 1973-76. During his tenure he amassed 18 victories which puts him third on Cal State's all-time list. Morrison also ranks fifth with 237 innings pitched.
Prior to becoming the head coach at Cal State East Bay, Morrison served as an assistant to Weiss for three seasons. Before that he was in charge at Castro Valley High School where his Trojans won the 1987 North Coast Section Championship. He was selected 1987 Northern California Coach of the Year. Morrison and his wife, Mareva, have a son, John.
