CAL STATE EAST BAY MEN'S SOCCER TEAM CONCLUDES WINNING SEASON WITH TWO OUT OF THREE VICTORIES IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
Cal State East Bay concluded the 2007 season by winning two out of three matches in Southern California on November 2-5. Cal State East Bay defeated Cal Tech 4-1 on November 2, lost to Chapman University 2-0 on November 3, and concluded the season with a 2-0 victory over La Sierra behind goals by Ante Jozinovic and Nelson Rodriguez. The Pioneers won their seventh match of the season defeating Chapman University 3-0 on October 27. Diego De Alba and Nelson Rodriguez scored in the first half giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead. Mohammed Airuwayshid added his team leading eighth goal in the second half. Kristopher Hall turned away seven shots to record his fourth shutout of the season. In a 1-0 Cal St East Bay victory over Dominican University, leading scorer Mohammed Airuwayshid accounted for the Pioneers lone goal. Goalkeeper Kristopher Hall turned away four shots to record his first shutout of the season. In the win over William Jessup on October 3, Ante Jozinovic recorded a hat trick while Jordan Ferrell converted a penalty kick. On October 6, Cal State East Bay lost to U.C. Santa Cruz 2-0. The Pioneers lost to U.C. Santa Cruz 3-1 on October 13. Jordan Ferrell converted a penalty kick to account for the Pioneers lone goal. Cal State East Bay snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating Embry-Riddle 2-0 on October 21. Diego De Alba and Mohammed Airuwayshid accounted for the Pioneers two goals. Kristopher Hall turned away a season-high seven shots to record his third shutout of the season.
The Pioneers finished the 2007 campaign with a 9-6-1 record. Cal State East Bay won four of its last five matches. Mohammed Airuwayshid was the Pioneers top scorer with nine goals and one assist. Ante Jozinovic followed with eight goals. Diego De Alba contributed to a winning season with three goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Kristopher Hall had 88 saves, five shutouts, and a 1.24 goals against average. Airuwayshid was selected to the Association of Division III Independents first team. Hall was named to the second team while Ante Jozinovic, Nolan Smith, and Ethan Ferrell received honorable mention recognition.

A strong nucleus of returning players plus a promising group of newcomers give the Pioneer men's soccer team a solid foundation for the 2007 season. Nine players return from the 2006 squad which finished with a record of 5-8-2. Leading scorer midfielder-forward Nelson Rodriguez (6 goals-1 assist) returns for his senior season. In the midfield the Pioneers will feature senior Gregorie Youbara along with juniors Diego De Alba (5 goals), Ante Jozinovic (4 goals), Jordan Ferrell and Dylan Kiyomura. Daniel Mottram, from Kingston University in England, will compete for playing time in the midfield. Ayed Binshahbal, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, along with senior Cesar Leyva will see action at the forward position. A strong Pioneer defense will be led be senior Ethan Ferrell and junior Jesus Gonzalez along with newcomers Nolan Smith (Napa Valley College) and Tedros Tamene (Tennyson High School). Three players will compete for the goalkeeper position: Diljeet Sekhon (Chabot College), Kristopher Hall (Modesto Junior College), and freshman Zurisadai Cortez (San Leandro High School).

Cal State East Bay men's soccer team completed the 2006 season with a record of 5-8-2. The Pioneers shutout Northwest Christian College 7-0 on October 28 behind Diego De Alba two goals and blanked Pacific Union College 4-0 on October 30 highlighted by a pair of Nelson Rodriguez goals. Cal State East Bay concluded the 2006 season with a 4-2 setback to Chapman University. Diego De Alba and Jesus Gonzalez accounted for the Pioneers two goals. Nelson Rodriguez led the Pioneers in scoring with six goals and one assist. Diego De Alba scored five goals while freshman Ante Jozinovic followed with four. Goalkeeper Sergio Valle has allowed 1.75 goals with five shutouts. De Alba was named second team Association of Division III Independents. Kento Shiina and Valle received honorable mention recognition.
CAL STATE EAST BAY MEN'S SOCCER WILL FIELD SOLID TEAM FOR THE 2006 CAMPAIGN
A quality group of returning players along with a promising group of newcomers, give the Pioneers a solid foundation for the 2006 season. The Pioneers return 14 players including eight starters. "Our returning players will be stronger both mentally and physically, said 14-year coach Jair Fory. "With the returning players and newcomers, this is the most balanced team I've coached in a long time." This team will be playing for post-season competition." The Pioneers return senior goalkeeper Sergio Valle. "Sergio is one of the best goalkeepers playing collegiate soccer," said Fory. "His goalkeeping skills will keep us in every match." Leading scorer Jordan Ferrell, with five goals, will be back for his sophomore campaign. "Jordan had a solid freshman campaign," said Fory. "We're counting on him to continue his goal scoring in 2006." The Pioneers are counting on a good junior year from Aldo Reyes. "Aldo has played well in his first two seasons at Cal State East Bay," said Fory. "He should contribute both offensively and defensively on the soccer field." Cal State East Bay will be solid defensively during the 2006 season. Team captain Kento Shiina returns for his junior season. "Kento was our team captain and one of the best all-around players last year," said Fory. "He will continue to solidify our defense." Ethan Ferrell and Diego De Alba are two outstanding returning defenders for the Pioneers. "Ethan is a solid defender whose fine all-around play will make him an offensive threat this season," said Fory. "Last year he showed his offensive ability with two goals on only five shots on goal." "Diego is a talented defender who will be called upon to create offensive situations," said Fory. Newcomers expected to contribute towards a successful Pioneer season include Dylan Kiyomura-City College of San Francisco, Nelson Rodriguez-Delta College, and freshman Salvador-Oxnard High School. The Pioneer men’s soccer team finished the 2005 season with an 8-9 record. Cal State East Bay won six of its last eight matches including an 8-0 victory over Pacific Union College which the Pioneers scored all eight goals in the final 22:30 of the match. Eight of the nine Pioneer defeats were by one goal. Jordan Ferrell was the Pioneers leading scorer with five goals followed by Luis Guerrero with four. Guerrero received Association of Division III Independents, All-Independent Men's Soccer Teams honorable mention recognition. Defender Aaron Fabre scored three goals during the 2005 campaign. Shamil Nawar allowed 1.19 goals a match with 21 saves and two shutouts while Sergio Valle had a 1.33 goals against average with 91 saves and one shutout in 13 starts.
