HEAD COACH Barbara Pierce

Cal State East Bay announced the selection of California resident BARBARA PIERCE to lead the women's softball program in 2007. A graduate and former player at Penn State University, Ms. Pierce brings a wealth of experience as a NCAA Division III coach and high level softball player. From 2005-06, she served as an assistant softball coach at NCAA Division III St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY). Her responsibilities included all aspects of the game and team operations. As a player at Penn State University from 2000-04, Pierce was senior captain and starting shortstop. She was named to the NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team and three times competed in the NCAA Regionals. Pierce was a member of the ASA National Champion -18 & Under team in 1999. "I'm extremely excited to be the women's softball coach at Cal State East Bay," said Pierce. "We're excited to have Barbara as part of our team," said director of athletics Debby DeAngelis. "Her qualifications as a NCAAA Division III coach and player who competed at a high level, can take our successful softball program to the next level." Pierce received numerous Academic Honors at Penn State including three times named to the Dean's List and three times the Penn State Student-Athlete Advisory Board Academic Award Recipient. She was also a three-time Academic All-Big Ten Team honoree. Pierces' other notable experiences included working as a sports information assistant at St. Lawrence University and serving as a Softball Camp Instructor at Penn State University for five years and the University of Michigan for two years. Pierce, a resident of Citrus Heights, California, received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Penn State University in 2004 and completed her Master of Education (M.Ed.) from St. Lawrence University in August,2006.
