Head swimming coach Anthony Garcia began coaching at Cal State East Bay in 1987. Garcia received the “Excellence in Coaching” Award for the 2003-04 season.
Garcia participated in intercollegiate swimming at Cal State East Bay from 1978-82 after which he received his B.A. Degree in Sociology. After graduation he served as a volunteer coach for the university during the 1982-83 season. From 1983-86 he became an integral part of the coaching staff at Texas Tech University. At Texas Tech he experienced coaching at the Division I level and experienced success at the NCAA Championships. Garcia returned to Cal State East Bay in 1987 as the head coach for men's and women's swimming. During his years of coaching, Garcia has produced a number of All-Americans. He has been involved with swim camps at Northern Michigan University and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Garcia also coached the USS team, “Pioneer Aquatics” as well as a Master's Swim Team at Cal State East Bay.
In 1999, Garcia completed his M.S. Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Administration at Cal State East Bay. Garcia has brought enthusiasm and new life to the swimming program and continues to produce outstanding student-athletes. His dedication to academic achievement and quality swimming earned him 1992 Conference Coach of the Year honors in the Northern California Athletic Conference.
Garcia lives with his wife, Karen and their sons Emilio and Mateo in Hayward.
