Greg Ryan concluded his third season as the Pioneers track and field coach. Ryan will begin his eighth year at the helm of the Cal State East Bay women's and men's cross country teams. During the 2007 season, the Pioneer women's cross country team captured their fifth consecutive Cal Pac Conference Championship while the men's team won their second league title. Both teams placed 10th in the NAIA West Regionals. In 2006, the Pioneer women's cross country team won their fourth straight Cal Pac Conference championship. The 2005 Pioneer women's cross country team captured the Cal Pac Conference Championship for the third straight year while the men's squad finished in second place for the third consecutive season. Under the fine handling of coach Ryan, the 2004 Pioneer women's cross country captured the Cal Pac Conference Championship for the second straight year. The CSUEB men's team finished second in the Cal Pac Conference Championships. Ryan led the 2003 Pioneer women's cross country team to their first conference championship since 1981. The Pioneer men's cross country team finished second in the Cal Pac Conference Championships. During the 2002 campaign, Ryan guided the men's cross country team to the Cal Pac Conference Championship, their first league title in 17 years. The Pioneer women's team finished second in the Cal Pac Championships.
From 1995-2000 Ryan worked with the distance runners in cross country and track and field at Sacramento State.
Ryan was the head cross country coach at Cal State Los Angeles from 1986-95 where the women's team finished in the top 10 in eight NCAA Division II Championships and earned a pair of national trophies. During the nine-year period, 18 All-Americans were produced. The men's team won the NCAA Western Regional title in two of the three years under Ryan. During the 1994 season, Ryan was voted NCAA II West Region Coach of the Year. Ryan also assisted with the track and field program where he was selected NCAA II West Region Coach of the Year in 1993 and 1994.
Ryan served as head cross country and track and field coach at East Los Angeles College from 1982-86. The women's cross country team recorded a top 5 finish at the Junior College State Meet all four years and was the Southern California Champions in 1983 under Ryan. The women's team won the conference championship all four while the men's squad earned a pair of league titles and a 5th place finish at the 1986 Junior College State Meet.
Ryan started the cross country and track programs at Sacred Heart High School in 1976. After joining the C.I.F. in 1978, the cross country and track and field teams won five consecutive conference championships. The women's cross country team captured the CIF Championship in 1981.
A former math teacher at Roseville High School, Ryan received his M.S. in Exercise Physiology from Cal State East Bay, his M.B.A. from Florida State University, and B.S. and B.A. from Georgetown University. He is currently the head coach of the Cal State East Bay women's and men's outdoor track teams.
